CEREBRO: towards complete non-invasive imaging of brain activity

The aim of the European CEREBRO project is to create the first electrical contrast medium to provide complete non-invasive images of the brain. Current methods for imaging brain activity using electroencephalography are limited in terms of spatial resolution, and do not cover the whole brain. The product to be developed by CEREBRO is designed to overcome these limitations. IMT Atlantique researchers Adrien Merlini and François Rousseau reveal the details of this project.

Imaging to help people with brain injuries

People with brain injuries have complex cognitive and neurobiological processes. This is the case for people who have suffered a stroke, or who are in a minimally conscious state and close to a vegetative state. At IMT Mines Alès, Gérard Dray is working on new technology involving neuroimaging and statistical learning. This research means that […]

4D Imaging for Evaluating Facial Paralysis Treatment

Mohamed Daoudi is a researcher at IMT Lille Douai, and is currently working on an advanced system of 4-dimensional imaging to measure the after-effects of peripheral facial paralysis. This tool could prove especially useful to practitioners in measuring the severity of the damage and in their assessment of the efficacy of treatment.   “Paralysis began […]

Mental disorders: when data helps save lives

For several years now, a team from IMT Atlantique has been working in cooperation with doctors from Brest University Hospital and a psychologist from Fondation Bon Sauveur in Bégard to improve early detection of mental disorders such as schizophrenia and to reduce suicidal relapses. The success of this approach based on digital tools lies in the robustness of the analysis and decision models the scientists have developed. It is also dependent on the quality of the health data, which must be correctly recorded by hospital staff.

A biocluster to boost innovation in cancer treatment

Paris Saclay Cancer Cluster offers a wide range of scientific and technical solutions to support the challenging field of research aimed at fighting cancer. Telecom Paris is invested in this ambitious initiative, which strengthens ties between those driving innovation in oncology and provides access to a combination of technological platforms, databases, expertise and training opportunities.

Stéphane Avril, the mechanics of human tissue

Stéphane Avril is a mechanical engineer, but his research focuses on the elasticity and resistance of arteries, and how this changes with disease or old age. This researcher from Mines Saint-Étienne is passionate about biology and has received a prestigious European Research Council (ERC) grant for the third time. This funding will support his next ambitious project: reversing the effects of aging on arteries by controlling mechanical wear. It represents a new phase in a journey at the interface between two disciplines.

Encrypting and watermarking health data to protect it

As medicine and genetics make increasing use of data science and AI, the question of how to protect this sensitive information is becoming increasingly important to all those involved in health. A team from the LaTIM laboratory is working on these issues, with solutions such as encryption and watermarking. It has just been accredited by Inserm.
