Do we still need structured information? (The answer is yes)

Large language models (LLM) are revolutionizing the relevance of natural language comprehension and text responses. Combining them with structured data for standardized organization only improves their accuracy. It is against this backdrop that Telecom Paris researcher Fabian Suchanek and his team are continuing to develop the YAGO knowledge base.

Destination moon with additive manufacturing using lunar dust

3D printing objects using lunar material is no longer science fiction. To facilitate the establishment of a base on the Moon, researchers at IMT Mines Albi are seriously examining this possibility. In the Institut Clément Ader (ICA) laboratories, they are striving to implement an additive manufacturing process using a terrestrial rock with similar properties to lunar dust. Their aim is to improve the autonomy of the Moon’s first inhabitants.

Data and model-assisted beekeeping

Gregory Zacharewicz, IMT Mines Alès – Institut Mines-Télécom and Baptiste Magnier, IMT Mines Alès – Institut Mines-Télécom Bees are key participants in biodiversity. They contribute enormously to pollination, an essential step in the life cycle of plants.  Yet current threats to biodiversity herald the disappearance of pollinating insects and honey bees in particular (such as […]

Simulation and serious games: training tools for crisis management

To prepare elected officials, local authorities and citizens to respond in times of crises, immersive simulations and serious games are particularly useful. At IMT Mines Alès and Mines Saint-Étienne, these techniques are used to help prepare people for the worst. Several sirens are blaring in a chilly room at IMT Mines Alès. Staff from the […]

Encrypting and watermarking health data to protect it

As medicine and genetics make increasing use of data science and AI, the question of how to protect this sensitive information is becoming increasingly important to all those involved in health. A team from the LaTIM laboratory is working on these issues, with solutions such as encryption and watermarking. It has just been accredited by Inserm.

What is the metaverse?

Although it is only in the prototype stage, the metaverse is already making quite a name for itself. This term, which comes straight out of a science fiction novel from the 1990s, now describes the concept of a connected virtual world, heralded as the future of the Internet. So what’s hiding on the other side […]

Planning for the worst with artificial intelligence

Given that catastrophic events are rare by nature, it is difficult to prepare for them. However, artificial intelligence offers high-performing tools for modeling and simulation, and is therefore an excellent tool to design, test and optimize the response to such events. At IMT Mines Alès, Satya Lancel and Cyril Orengo are both undertaking research on […]

An oasis of waste reconverted into ceramic materials

Transforming industrial waste and unused by-products could make it possible to respond to issues of scarcity for civil engineering resources, recyclability and even reducing use of fossil fuels. Doan Pham Minh, process engineering researcher at IMT Mines Albi, explains several avenues for recycling and reusing materials explored by his work. One man’s trash can be […]
